PETALING JAYA: A man was killed in a three-vehicle pile-up along Jalan Bernam on the way to Tanjung Karang from Kuala Selangor.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the accident occurred at around 10pm Sunday (Dec 17) night.
One of the cars was carrying four people while the other two had two occupants each, he added when contacted on Monday (Dec 18).
Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.05pm.
By the time they arrived, two victims – a man and a woman – had been removed from one car by passers-by.
"The woman suffered injuries to the chin and a broken left foot, while the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"His body has been handed over to police for a post-mortem," Ahmad Mukhlis added.
It is known that the deceased had just gotten married over the weekend and that the survivor is his wife.
Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Ramli Kasa, in a statement, said that the accident occurred after the driver of a Perodua Bezza lost control of his vehicle, leading to it entering the opposite lane where it collided into a Honda City.
"Following the initial collision, the Perodua then turned and landed on the left side of the road. A third car failed to avoid it in time and that led to another collision at the side of the first car which led to the Perodua being dragged a further 11 metres.
The passengers and drivers of the other two cars also sustained injuries to varying degrees and were taken to hospital.
