Several areas in Penang face water cut after pipe bursts at Prai River


GEORGE TOWN: A section of pipe measuring 1.35m laid across the bottom of Prai River burst on Monday (Dec 18) morning.

Areas such as Butterworth, Ampang Jajar, Sungai Dua, several areas of the northeast district and the entire southwest district of Penang are affected, according to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP).

In a statement, PBAPP confirmed the pipe had burst and it was looking into the cause of the damage.

"We are assessing (the situation) at the site and will update the affected areas in due time," it said in response to numerous queries on Facebook.

In videos shared on social media, water is seen gushing upwards from the river's surface.
