The late M Daud Kilau supposed to undergo foot surgery, says daughter

TELUK INTAN: Legendary 'Raja Gelek' singer Datuk M. Daud Kilau, who died at Hospital Teluk Intan (HTI) on Monday (Dec 18), was supposed to undergo leg surgery due to a bacterial infection.

His eldest daughter, Noraini Muhammad Daud, 58, said the surgery was postponed due to his deteriorating health from various complications including bacterial infection in the blood, heart disease, diabetes and kidney problems.

"My late father has been unconscious since Sunday (Dec 17) morning and the doctor informed us that his health was deteriorating.

"He was admitted to the Hospital Teluk Intan ward last Tuesday. While he was in the hospital, there were days when he was conscious and days when he lapsed into unconsciousness – but even when he was awake, we couldn't understand what he was saying," she said when met at the HTI forensic medicine unit here on Monday.

Noraini said the entire family were by his side when he breathed his last at about 4.30pm.

Noraini said his body was ritually bathed and shrouded at HTI before being taken back home to Kampung Sungai Balai Baroh, Bagan Datuk.

His wife Datin Rohani Awang Ngah declined to be interviewed because she was too distraught.

The death of M Daud Kilau, 85, was confirmed by his grandson Hasnor Ikram on Instagram.

"My grandfather Mohd Daud bin Kilau breathed his last just a moment ago. Al-Fatihah," he said briefly.

The singer of evergreen song Che Mek Molek had in the past few years been hospitalised several times for health problems after being diagnosed with diabetes, besides back pain and heart issues. – Bernama
