Covid-19: King advises public to take preventive measures seriously


KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been urged to take precautionary measures and stay disciplined following the recent increase in Covid-19 infections.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah advised the public to take precautions and practise self-control, especially the vulnerable groups, including the elderly and those with comorbidities.

Comptroller of the Royal Household, Major General Datuk Zahari Mohd Ariffin, said the people should practise the use of face masks in concentrated public areas, where it is crowded and congested, as well as maintain physical distancing and wash hands and use disinfectant liquid as often as possible.

"Symptomatic individuals are advised to avoid the 3S - crowded places, confined spaces, and close conversations - as a preventative measure to reduce the risk of infection.

"His Majesty has expressed worry that if the people take it lightly, the result could increase in Covid-19 cases.

"In addition, it is the school holiday season where we will witness more movements and gatherings," he said.

He further shared that reports have shown that from Dec 10 to Dec 16, Covid-19 cases stood at 20,696, with 151 patients requiring treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

"His Majesty has expressed support to the Health Ministry for closely monitoring the cases and infection rate throughout the country as well as issuing statements of updates, recommendations and instructions based on the current situation.

"The people are advised always to be aware of the latest developments of Covid-19 cases in the country and the instructions issued by the Health Ministry from time to time," he said.
