Fahmi: No move to make booster jabs mandatory


KUALA LUMPUR: There is no move by the government to make it mandatory for Malaysians to get booster jabs following the increase in Covid-19 cases, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said for the time being, the Health Ministry is only encouraging people, especially those in vulnerable and high-risk groups, to take the booster shot.

He said contrary viral claims online were inaccurate.

“This is a minor misunderstanding on social media – please verify the content before you share any information; sometimes the headline doesn’t match the content, and I advise that you verify first,” he said at Wisma Bernama yesterday.

He said this after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of agreement between Bernama and China’s Xinhua News Agency, which was attended by Bernama’s editor-in-chief Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, who is also discharging the duties of chief executive officer.

Also present was Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.
