Cops seize 82 motorcycles modified for illegal racing in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 82 motorcycles without rear brakes were seized following a traffic operation on Sunday (Dec 17).

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the operation codenamed Ops Motosikal/Ops Samseng Jalanan by KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), revealed that teenage riders, who joined illegal races, took off their motorcycles' rear brakes.

"We have detected teenagers who race by taking off the rear brakes. It is very dangerous and could cause fatal accidents," he told reporters after attending the KL police monthly assembly on Wednesday (Dec 20).

A total of 625 summonses were issued during the operation while 247 motorcycles were seized, he said.

"82 of the seized motorcycles were illegally modified by taking off the rear brakes.

"It is the latest trend among teenage riders," he added.

Comm Allaudeen also advised parents to monitor the activities of their children so that they are not involved in such dangerous activities.
