MALAYSIAN singer Jeryl Lee (pic) was crowned Budding Artiste of the Year at the Tencent Starlight Awards on Sunday, just over two months after she won the reality TV show The Next 2023, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The 23-year-old Penangite blew the audience away with a powerful rendition of Warrior of the Darkness, the theme song of the League of Legends TV series.

During the ceremony in Macau, two finalists of The Next 2023, Zhang Yuzi and Wu Yaotao, were awarded Budding Artiste of the Year along with Lee.

“This award belongs to my family, my fans and my friends. Thank you for always being with me. I will continue to work hard and shine,” Lee wrote on Weibo, China’s equivalent of X after beating more than 25 other contestants on Sept 30 to emerge champion on The Next 2023.

The annual Starlight Awards is held by tech giant Tencent to honour the year’s outstanding actors and singers.
