RHB founder Abdul Rashid to lead Tabung Haji

PUTRAJAYA: Prominent businessman and RHB Group founder Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain (pic) has been appointed Tabung Haji (TH) chairman.

In making the announcement, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said Abdul Rashid’s appointment took effect yesterday.

Abdul Rashid, 77, replaces Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, who had held the position for two years beginning Dec 20, 2021.

“Abdul Rashid’s vast experience as a corporate figure will be valuable in continuing TH’s excellence as a world-class institution in managing the haj.

“Further, he will be able to assist in spearheading efforts to strengthen the organisation,” Mohd Na’im said in a statement yesterday.

Abdul Rashid also served as a chairman of Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s executive committee from 1994 to 1998.

He was also the chairman of Putrajaya Holdings from 1995 to 2000.

Mohd Na’im said Abdul Rashid was also among the six individuals appointed to the Royal Commission of Inquiry by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to investigate TH’s management and operational issues from 2014 to 2020.

“The report has been presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the government,” Mohd Na’im said, without elaborating.

On Jan 20 last year, the government obtained the King’s consent to set up the RCI, and the commission was given six months to carry out investigations and prepare a report.

Mohd Na’im also expressed appreciation to Azman for his service during his tenure as TH chairman.
