Body of baby girl found dumped in KK mall

KOTA KINABALU: Police are investigating a baby dumping case after the body of a baby girl was found inside a cleaning cart in a mall here.

The cleaning company supervisor for the shopping complex filed a report after the infant's body was discovered when the staff was sanitising and changing the waste plastic liner for the cleaning cart at 9.40pm on Thursday (Dec 21).

“The body was wrapped with a towel.

“Also found is a paper note saying ‘I am sorry and help me find a suitable place for my child. Thank you for your assistance. Don’t condemn me. I do not wish this to happen.'

“Police are currently conducting a probe on the closed circuit television (CCTV) recordings at the scene of the crime, besides getting intelligence to identify the suspect,” said Kota Kinabalu acting OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris in a statement on Friday (Dec 22).

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, where if proven guilty, one is liable for a maximum of two years in jail or fined, or both.
