PETALING JAYA: Motorists and residents in the Klang Valley are concerned that they will face traffic congestion and safety issues following the one-month closure of a slip road from Jalan Semantan heading to Kuala Lumpur, which starts today.

The closed slip road stretches from the Jalan Damanlela-Jalan Beringin junction (near Damansara City Mall) to the Semantan MRT station (refer to map).

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) recently announced that the closure was to facilitate the construction of a flyover in the area.

Datuk M. Ali, chairman of Save Kuala Lumpur and a representative of Bukit Bandaraya residents association, was dismayed over the flyover project delay.

He said residents in the area were told by DBKL during a briefing in September that the works would be completed by Dec 31, but are now delayed.

He also raised concerns about safety around Jalan Semantan arising from the flyover project, adding that various matters were forwarded to DBKL but have yet to be addressed.Haphazard placement of traffic barriers and a lack of signboards about the project were among his complaints.

“There must be proper monitoring by authorities to ensure the quality of work and safety aspects are up to par,” he added.

Bukit Damansara resident association president Datuk Sufian Majid urged the contractors to complete the project as soon as possible, saying, “We are upset, but we understand the need for the closure.

“All resources must be put to work to ensure a speedy completion of the works.”

A total of 17 detour routes have been identified for motorists to use during the month-long closure, according to DBKL.
