JOHOR BARU: More than RM7.2mil worth of goods and items have been confiscated by the Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in their enforcement operations this year.

The ministry’s state director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said this involved 1,277 cases for various offences, with compound notices of over RM1mil issued from January until Dec 23.

“Besides organising ‘Jualan Rahmah’, our enforcement team has also been actively conducting operations and surveillance at the state's supermarkets, wet markets, and sundry stores.

“About 90% of the cases we recorded are based on our own data and surveillance, and the remaining 10% are based on the information provided by members of the public,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters after launching the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme at Jaya Grocer Austin Heights on Saturday (Dec 23).

Lilis added that this is the third time the price control scheme has been organised in Johor after the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Deepavali celebrations.

“The fourth price control is for the coming Christmas festive season, which will be enforced from Dec 23 to 27.

“We have also conducted 1,136 inspections at all supermarkets, factories, wholesalers, and even mini markets from January until Dec 23 this year.

“We have recorded 57 cases and issued a compound worth RM6,700 for offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,” she added.

Lilis also shared that the price control scheme was introduced to ensure that the traders sell the controlled items under the designated price and adhere to the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020.
