Blood-soaked body of man found on road after parang fight

KOTA KINABALU: A blood-drenched body of a man with multiple stab and cut wounds was found along the roadside of a school close to the traffic light intersection of Jalan Penampang on Sunday morning (Dec 24).

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said the victim was a foreigner who was involved in a fight between an unidentified number of men wielding machetes sometime around 4.30am.

“The victim was declared dead at the scene by a medical officer from the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 24).

Supt Sammy said he had also received a call from the public at 4.44am about a fight involving several men in the location where the body was found.

He said no arrests had been made, and police classified the case as murder.

He urged witnesses to come forward to provide information to assist the investigation, and they can directly contact the Senior Investigating Officer of the Criminal Investigation Division of Penampang District Police Headquarters (IPD), Assistant Superintendent Andi Ma'Mur Halwati on 0195853918.

"We also urge the public not to spread pictures at the murder scene or upload and spread unauthentic information on social media, which can cause public fear," he added.
