IPOH: Malaysia’s Bhangra ambassador and one-half of Goldkartz, Datuk Sukhjit Singh Gill, has passed away.

A statement issued by his older brother, Datuk Amarjit Singh, said Sukhjit, 34, passed away due to a heart attack at 4.15pm on Sunday (Dec 24).

Sukhjit is the youngest son of Ipoh-based lawyer Tan Sri Darshan Singh Gill.

He leaves behind wife Datin Simerjit Kaur and a daughter.

Amarjit, who is the International Cycling Union (UCI) management board member and the vice-president of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF), said his brother was fondly known as Surj.

He said Sukhjit's latest music release, “Sab Gazab”, gained 34 million YouTube views in eight months.

“Goldkartz (a music duo) has won several local and international awards and is dubbed as Malaysia's Bhangra Ambassadors.

“Goldkartz was the first Malaysian artist to perform at Wembley and also did music for Bollywood,” he said.

In 2014, Sukhjit was called to the Bar at the Ipoh High Court, becoming the fifth member of his family to become a lawyer.

Amarjit said Sukhjit was a law graduate from Universiti Malaya.

The funeral will be held on Dec 26 at 1pm at the Sikh Crematorium on Jalan Gurdwara (Next to Wadda Gurdwara Sahib Ipoh).
