Pillion rider killed, two others seriously injured in Tawau accident


KOTA KINABALU: A pillion rider died while her seven-year-old daughter and husband suffered serious injuries when their motorcycle was hit by a taxi at a road intersection in Sabah's east coast Tawau town.

Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said that the 33-year-old woman died at the scene while her 45-year-old husband and their daughter were rushed to the Tawau district hospital for treatment.

He said the 68-year-old taxi driver, who was unhurt, was arrested following the accident at Ranggu Saujana around 7am Sunday (Dec 24).

He said initial investigations showed that the taxi driver from Tanjung Batu was turning towards Ranggu Saujana to meet a friend when he knocked into the oncoming motorcyclist.

He said police were continuing their investigations into the case.
