Two boys drown while swimming in Papar river


KOTA KINABALU: Two teenage boys drowned while swimming in a river at Kampung Kaiduan in Kinarut in the Papar district about 60km from here on Tuesday (Dec 26).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman identified them as Maxemanual Jurus, 18, and Elvin Shane Surazal, 14, in the incident that occurred around 4pm.

The spokesman said the duo were confirmed dead by a medical officer at the scene and handed to the police for further action.

He said that they received the distress call at 4.42pm with a team of firemen dispatched to the scene about 30km from Papar town.

However, on arrival at the scene found the two had been pulled out of the water and some of the locals had attempted to resuscitate them using CPR.

On arrival Emergency Medical Rescue Team (EMRS) personnel and a medical doctor also attempted to resuscitate the victims, the spokesman said.

However, the two were pronounced dead by the doctor at 5.49pm
