Diligently carrying out his duty to guard relief centre


KUALA KRAI: A security guard affected by the floods put aside his emotions to provide comfort to other victims housed at a temporary relief centre.

Azmi Muhd (pic), 40, was put in charge of looking after flood victims moved to the SMK Keroh and performed his task admirably.

“The heavy rain made me feel uneasy while working as I worried about my own family’s safety. At the same time, flood victims were checking into the relief centre,” he was quoted as telling Bernama yesterday.

Azmi said he lived with his 63-year-old mother and siblings in Kampung Keroh.

He said a colleague later helped cover for him when he went back to evacuate his family and bring them to the relief centre.

“I am grateful to be able to lend a helping hand to the flood victims. This is a valuable experience for me since I started working as a security guard in 2015,” he said, adding the experience became more meaningful when the flood victims thanked him for his assistance at the relief centre.

According to the Kelantan Disaster Management Committee secretariat, 32 temporary relief centres were opened as of 2pm, involving 3,308 flood victims from 903 families.
