Lorry driver claims trial to unlawful possession of diesel


SUNGAI PETANI: A lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (Dec 27) to possession of a controlled item without a licence last year.

The accused G. Chandrakumar, 46, entered the plea after the charge was read out to him before Judge Azman Abu Hassan.

Chandrakumar was charged with possessing 24,676 litres of diesel at premises in Jalan Pinang Emas 1, Pinang Emas Industrial Area here, on Oct 4 2022, at 1.13 pm.

The charge framed under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, punishable under Section 22(1) of the same Act, provides a maximum fine of RM1 million or imprisonment of not more than three years or both, while a subsequent offence, not exceeding RM2 million or imprisonment for a maximum of five years or both.

The prosecution was conducted by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s deputy public prosecutor Roslina Idris, while the accused was represented by counsel T. Sharmela.

The accused was allowed bail at RM20,000 with one surety and ordered to report to the nearest police station every month.

The court set Feb 5 next year for remention. - Bernama
