Be wary of crocs during the rainy season, says Sarawak Forestry Corporation

SIBU: The people have been told to remain vigilant during the rainy season as this is when crocodiles would be most active.

Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) in its Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 28) said that during the rainy season from November to March, there would be an increase in the number of crocodiles.

"This period coincides with their breeding season, making them more active and potentially bringing them into closer proximity to residential areas," it said.

SFC advised the people to secure livestock away from water, and report sightings promptly.

"Dispose of waste responsibly to avoid attracting crocodiles. Improper disposal of trash and debris in rivers attracts crocodiles to come nearer to housing areas.

"Continuous rain leads to higher water levels, making it easier for crocodiles to move further on land. Animals and livestock near water sources can attract crocodiles, especially during the breeding season," it added.
