Couple courts social media buzz with choice of wedding photo shoot location

GEORGE TOWN: A young couple stirred some excitement on social media by staging their wedding photo shoot at the Batu Lanchang market food court instead of the more customary picturesque locations.

Commenters' imagination ran wild, with one suggesting that the couple must have met for the first time at the stall selling economy rice, curry and lor bak (five-spice pork roll).

Another joked that the couple was lucky as the stall owner was off that day. Otherwise, the wedding gown could have been stained with curry and it would be hard to clean.

A third comment read: "If you have overspent on your wedding arrangements, then be prepared to eat only economy rice from then onward."

According to China Press, one of the stall operators said the couple spent two hours at stall 24 (the economy rice stall) and the walkways of the food court for their photoshoot on Boxing Day (Tuesday, Dec 26).

He said the couple was accompanied by four members of the camera crew.

He added that the economy rice seller was away on vacation, and would only be back next year.

He also said the bride and groom were neither regulars nor related to the economy rice seller, and none of the other stall operators knew them either.
