Golden and silver chariots will run together in Penang next year


GEORGE TOWN: The golden and silver chariots will be moving together during Thaipusam next year, says Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) chairman RSN Rayer.

He said the board had a cordial working relationship with the Waterfall Nattukotai Chettiar Temple trustees.

"We have been working with them very closely since I was appointed chairman and have had several meetings to discuss how to coordinate the chariot procession.

"There are no plans to cancel the procession of the golden chariot as such 'news' is mere rumours," added Rayer.

He was responding to the proposal by Nattukotai temple committee chairman Dr A. Narayanan to have a single chariot procession.

During the procession this year on Feb 4, the golden chariot left the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Lebuh Queen at about 6.30am, while the silver chariot left the "kovil veedu" in Lebuh Penang at 7.50am.
