Man who had a guidewire left in his blood vessel dies in hospital

PETALING JAYA: Sivaperumal Subramaniam, who was operated on at the Klang Hospital but was left with the guidewire in his blood vessels has died.

Former Seberang Prai City councillor David Marshel said Sivaperumal, 51, died on Wednesday (Dec 27) night.

"His health has deteriorated since the incident where the guidewire was left in the blood vessel during a procedure to place a dialysis valve on Dec 7, which was later removed at the Sungai Buloh Hospital the next day," said Marshel on his Facebook on Wednesday (Dec 27).

"He was suffering for 21 days and was also warded at the Universiti Hospital before being discharged due to breathing difficulties and vomiting.

"Sivaperumal's death should be taken seriously by the Health Ministry," added Marshel.

It was reported that Sivaperumal received dialysis treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) from Dec 4 to 7 and later the hospital proceeded with the insertion of a dialysis catheter (tube).

Following this his condition worsened and he experienced continuous vomiting.

Upon reviewing the X-ray report, it was later discovered that a 22cm guidewire was inside the body.

On Dec 9, HTAR director Dr Zulkarnain Rawi assured that the hospital was investigating the allegation and it would not compromise on any negligence if found to have occurred.
