Villager finds 4m king cobra in his bedroom

KUALA BERANG: A villager was lucky to escape unharmed after he heard hissing inside his bedroom at his Kampung Sungai Ular home here.

It turned out to be a highly poisonous 4m-long king cobra.

The Hulu Terengganu Civil Defence Force caught the king cobra weighing about 20kg on Tuesday.

Hulu Terengganu District Civil Defence officer Mohd Zabri Abd Razak told Bernama that it had received a call from the villager at about 7.10pm about the snake inside his bedroom.

“At first, he heard hissing from the top of his bedroom and then he saw the snake.

“It’s normal for snakes to hiss as a warning when they feel threatened.

“King cobras are very poisonous. If bitten, victims could die in just five minutes,” he said when contacted yesterday.

It took a five-man team 10 minutes to capture the snake.

The snake, said Mohd Zabri, would be kept temporarily at its district office before they decide whether to release it back into the wild far from populated areas or hand it over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department.
