Jawi instructs all mosques, surau to pray for flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: All mosques and surau in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan have been urged to organise solat hajat (prayer of need) for flood victims by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).

Jawi director Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail called on worshippers to perform solat hajat after Maghrib prayers last night and Friday prayers today.

He said the mosques and surau in the Federal Territories would also raise funds through a special collection during Friday prayers and assist flood victims through the agencies under the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).

“We pray that all rescue teams are granted safety and ease, and all our brothers and sisters are granted resilience in facing this calamity,” he said in a statement yesterday, reported Bernama.

As at noon yesterday, 26,914 victims were at 131 flood relief centres in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and Sabah.

Continuous rain was forecast throughout the day in Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru).
