THE “blessing of ankle bells” ceremony of 12 Bharathanatyam dancers was made extra special with the attendance of the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia BN Reddy, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The students from the Abhinayakshetra Fine Arts School in Shah Alam, Selangor, were taking part in the ceremony, which blesses the “salangai” or ankle bells as a sign of moving on to the next stage of their training.

The students, who trained for 18 months under dance teacher Vigneswari Chandramohan, performed 10 classical numbers during the ceremony.

Also present were Abhinayakshetra patron Datuk Seri N. Navarathinam, and family and friends of the dancers.
