Opposition leaders rubbish talk of ‘Dubai Move’ to topple unity govt

PETALING JAYA: Several Perikatan Nasional leaders have rubbished talk of a “Dubai Move” purportedly orchestrated by certain Opposition leaders and certain government representatives to topple the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Perikatan's Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said that if the unity government was cohesive, it should not be worried about any such move.

"But if their own marriage is crumbling, then Anwar is clearly someone who cannot look after his own household.

"Rather than harping about how his administration is crumbling, Anwar should instead focus on creating a clear narrative and vision for his administration," he said when contacted on Saturday (Dec 30).

Wan Saiful was responding to the remarks made by the Community Communications Department deputy director (community communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop, who claimed that the “Dubai move” surfaced during the recent vacation of leaders from Perikatan, including government officials, in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He claimed that the meeting took place to discuss and assign specific tasks to “agents” responsible for identifying MPs who might switch support to the Opposition through inducements, solely to establish a “tebuk atap (backdoor)” government.

On top of the Perikatan leaders, Ismail also claimed the involvement of influential veteran political figures and “Tuns”, who were conspiring with the Opposition and using “foreign sources” to overthrow the administration led by Anwar.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris also dismissed such allegations, saying he has no information on the incident.

Razali also said that the matter was never brought up or discussed by any of the Opposition MPs, especially those from Bersatu.
