PETALING JAYA: The Kelantan government has thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for granting almost RM178mil in compassionate aid to the state.

Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said in total, the state had received RM216.96mil in aid from Putrajaya throughout 2023.

“It will benefit the people and also enhance the spirit of federalism between the state and federal governments in line with mature and prosperous political culture,” Nassurudin said in a statement yesterday.

He also welcomed Anwar’s announcements during his visit to the state on Friday to check on evacuees at temporary shelters, after floods displaced more than 15,000 people over the Christmas and year-end holidays.

Mohd Nassuruddin said the Prime Minister had approved an immediate allocation of RM6mil for the construction of a temporary embankment for the Sungai Golok Intergrated River Basin Development Project (PLSB).

He added that Anwar had also announced the approval of five new flood mitigation projects in Kelantan that will commence next year at a cost of RM910.52mil.

Mohd Nassuruddin said the state government will take all relevant steps to expedite the acquisition of land for the projects.
