Man killed when his MPV fell into a trench in Johor


JOHOR BARU: A 25-year-old man was killed after his MPV crashed into a road divider before going into a trench at Lebuhraya Pesisir Pantai, here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the incident occurred at 5.40am on Tuesday (Jan 2).

"The driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle before crashing into the guard rail and falling into the trench on the left side of the road.

"The crash caused the victim to suffer a serious injury to the head and was pronounced dead at the location," he said in a statement.

ACP Balveer added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987.

Meanwhile, Larkin Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Azmi Johar said that the department has deployed 14 men to the location to help with the rescue operation.

"The vehicle has fallen into a two-metre-deep trench, while the body of the driver was found about 15m from the vehicle.

"The victim was pronounced dead by the medical team, and the rescue personnel have also conducted a sweep to look for any other victims in the area,” he added.
