Three detained for drunk driving during Ops Mabuk in Ampang

AMPANG: The police detained three men for driving while under the influence of alcohol on New Year's Eve during Ops Mabuk at Jalan Pandan Indah.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the trio are aged between 40 and 70 and were detained at a roadblock.

"Their blood alcohol levels were beyond the permitted amount. It is an offence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 2).

The blood alcohol levels were obtained after an Evidential Breath Analyzer II (EBA II) test, he said.

"Those detained and their vehicles were brought to the Ampang Jaya Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division headquarters.

"The test was performed there," he said.

The operation, conducted from 10pm to 12am on Dec 31, saw 82 summonses issued for various offences, he said.

"Driving without a valid license and illegally modifying vehicles and number plates were among the offences committed,” said ACP Mohd Azam.

"We also seized nine motorcycles and inspected 191 riders to curb reckless riding in the district," he added.

ACP Mohd Azam reminded road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

"Driving while intoxicated will not only endanger the driver but other road users as well," he said.
