Boy among 28 illegals nabbed in Skudai raid

JOHOR BARU: A total of 28 foreigners, including an 11-year-old boy, were arrested in a raid involving several shophouses here in Skudai.

Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir said they were nabbed at about 12.50am on Wednesday (Jan 3) in an operation codenamed Ops Sapu.

“Following a public tip-off, we raided several premises believed to be the homes of foreigners without valid permits or passes.

“We found 28 illegal immigrants from Myanmar, Indonesia and Bangladesh in the shophouses where seven are women, 20 are men and a boy. They are between 11 and 56 years old.

“They were renting small rooms and living rooms in the premises at rates of between RM450 and RM750 a month,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 3).

He added that they are being arrested under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 115) for failing to present any valid travel documents and Section 15(1)( c) of the same Act for overstaying.

Baharuddin also urged the public to channel any information they have about illegal immigrants and that the department will take serious action against such individuals.
