SEREMBAN: The state Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) is investigating the incident in which a worker was killed while putting up fireworks on the roof of a car park at a hotel in Port Dickson.
The 40-year-old man was killed on the spot on Sunday after the fireworks exploded, it said in a statement yesterday.
It said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was an employee of a company engaged to put up the fireworks for a display.
“The victim and three others were putting up the fireworks when it went off suddenly. The deceased sustained injuries to his face and body and died on the spot,” said DOSH.
It had also seized some documents related to the work and investigations are ongoing.
It was earlier reported that the victim was killed after being hit by fragments from exploding fireworks in the mishap, which happened at around 11.50am on Sunday.
DOSH said it was the responsibility of employers to ensure their employees worked under a safe environment.
This, it said, was stipulated under Section 15(1) of the DOSH Act 1994.
“Employers have full control over any activity at the workplace and they need to conduct a risk analysis and have in place effective risk controls before any work is carried out.
“This is to eliminate or reduce risks for employees and the public and to prevent accidents,” it said.
On Monday, a one-minute video and images of the explosion went viral on X (formerly Twitter).
