Dr Wee: TAR UMT producing well-rounded grads

PETALING JAYA: Undergraduates should strive to achieve excellence in academics and sports, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

The MCA president and TARC Education Foundation board of trustees chairman said such achievements make university life wonderful.

"In the course of university life, achieving excellence not only in academics but also in sports competitions is a remarkable accomplishment," he said after a tea session with students who won in various sports events at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).

The winners participated in various sports, including wushu, basketball, table tennis, and other events.

Dr Wee also reminisced about the old days of Tunku Abdul Rahman College before it was upgraded to Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and later TAR UMT.

Since its early days, Dr Wee said TAR UMT has consistently focused on providing affordable quality education to Malaysia's aspiring students.

"Today, decades later, TAR UMT has not only nurtured academic talents but also produced outstanding athletes in the realm of sports.

"This demonstrates that TAR UMT's graduates are not merely book-smart but well-rounded individuals excelling in various aspects," he said, adding that universities should strive for such achievements.

"Congratulations once again to all the students. TAR UMT is proud of your achievements," he added.

Also present were TARC Education Foundation board of trustees member Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look, TAR UMT president Prof Dr Lee Sze Wei, and several other university officials.
