Ex-LHDN chief appointed new KK mayor


KOTA KINABALU: Former Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah (pic) has been appointed the seventh mayor of the city here.

The 63-year-old takes over from the city’s first female mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, whose two-year term ended on Jan 1.

Sabin, who is from Ranau, received his letter of appointment from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at his office in Menara Kinabalu yesterday.

He is the seventh mayor since the elevation of Kota Kinabalu to city status on Feb 2, 2000.

He served as LHDN chief from 2016 to 2021. Prior to his appointment, he served as director-general of the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Also present at the appointment ceremony were Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir, and state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
