IPOH: A 31-year-old unemployed man, believed to be involved in the murder of a security guard at a camping site in Gunung Lang here, has been arrested by the police.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the man was arrested in Kampung Manjoi on Wednesday (Jan 3) at about 1.45pm, about 11 hours after receiving a call from the public about the discovery of the victim.
"We received the call at about 2.30am, reporting that the victim was found injured at the campsite.
"He was pronounced dead at the location by medical personnel from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Post mortem found that the deceased died due to coronary artery disease with associated blunt and sharp injuries," he added.
ACP Yahaya said the motive behind the murder was still being investigated.
"We believe that only the man and the victim were at the location prior to the incident.
"A background check on the man found 10 previous crime and drug-related cases," he said, adding that the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine.
"Further checks found that the man had previously received psychiatric treatment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.
"With his arrest, we believe we have solved the case," he added.
ACP Yahaya said the man will be brought to a Magistrate's Court to obtain a remand order on Thursday (Jan 4).
"The police will complete the investigation paper and refer it to the deputy public prosecutor's office with the recommendation to charge the man," he said.
