Man detained for impersonating cop in Ampang

AMPANG: A 27-year-old man was detained for posing as a policeman at Pandan Cahaya.

The suspect was wearing a police vest and riding his motorcycle at about 1.45am on Monday (Jan 1) when he was stopped by police patrol personnel.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the suspect failed to show his authority card when prompted.

"He also failed to give any valid reason for wearing the vest with the word ‘Polis’ written across it. He was then detained," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 3).

He said several items were seized, including a motorcycle, a set of keys, a vest and a MyKad.

"The suspect tested negative for drugs and did not have any prior criminal records.

"He has been remanded until Thursday (Jan 4)," he said.

The case is classified under Section 170 of the Penal Code and Section 89 of the Police Act for posing as a police.
