PUTRAJAYA: The newly-launched Central Database Hub (Padu) is operating smoothly and will not be suspended, says Fahmi Fadzil.
“The system is working smoothly. The issues raised were swiftly and successfully resolved.
“The safety aspect is constantly being monitored and the question of suspending it does not arise,” the Communications Minister told reporters after a post-Cabinet meeting here yesterday.

Fahmi assured the public that the government would continue to prioritise the safety of the system through ongoing monitoring to ensure no disruptions occur.Citing the issue of the possibility of MyKad numbers being used to change a Padu user’s password, he said it was resolved within an hour at 9.15pm on Tuesday, as informed by the Economy Minister.
“This shows that the Padu team and the Economy Ministry view the use of the system as being feasible,” he said.
Fahmi was responding to questions on whether Padu would be suspended as suggested by former deputy international trade and industry minister Ong Kian Ming, who claimed that a major flaw in Padu is the way it collects information.
Ong said Padu should be suspended until any flaws in the system had been addressed.
Padu is a government database containing detailed individual and household profiles of all citizens in the country.
On a separate matter, Fahmi announced that the AFC Asian Cup matches in Qatar would be aired by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
“Several quarters have asked if it will be aired on RTM. The answer is yes. It will be aired starting Jan 12,” he said.
The move to air the matches via RTM will allow football fans back home to watch the national team Harimau Malaya as well as other teams competing in the tournament, he added.
Meanwhile, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said action has been taken to resolve some of the issues raised in relation to registrations and updating information on the Padu website.
As at 10am yesterday, he said, a total of 233,782 users had registered while 118,115, or 71%, had completed their electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) verification.
