Real cops arrest man posing as policeman in Ampang

Caught red-handed: The suspect and items seized from him.

AMPANG: A 27-year-old man has been detained for posing as a policeman at Pandan Cahaya here.

The suspect, who was wearing a police vest, was riding a motorcycle at about 1.45am on Monday when he was stopped by a police patrol.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the suspect failed to show his authority card when prompted.

“He also failed to give a valid reason for wearing the vest with the word ‘Polis’ on it,” he said.

Several items were seized from the suspect such as the motorcycle, a set of keys, the vest and a MyKad.

“The suspect tested negative for drugs and does not have a criminal record. He has been remanded until Thursday,” he said.

The case is classified under Section 170 of the Penal Code and Section 89 of the Police Act.

“Posing as police is a serious offence,” added ACP Mohd Azam.

In an unrelated case, a 45-year-old man has been detained for assaulting his 40-year-old wife during an argument at their home in Taman Maju Jaya here.

ACP Mohd Azam said the victim lodged a police report at about 2am on Monday, claiming her husband had hit her over a misunderstanding.

“She suffered pains and bruises on her hands, legs and body.

“Medical personnel at Hospital Ampang also confirmed that the victim sustained soft tissue injuries to her right hand, fingers and legs,” he said.

ACP Mohd Azam said police detained the husband at about 5.25pm on Tuesday.

“The suspect tested negative for drugs and does not have a criminal record,” he said.

The case is classified under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing harm and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act.

“We believe the argument started when the husband got angry at the wife for slamming the door too loudly,” he said.

“The suspect will be remanded for further investigation.”
