Stay vigilant as heavy rain hits state, says Johor MB

JOHOR BARU: The public should stay vigilant as heavy rainfall is expected to hit the state over the next few days, says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He added that he has received a report from the state Meteorological Department, which warns that continuous heavy rain is expected until Sunday (Jan 7).

“This is expected to occur in the districts of Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru while there is an alert for rain in Batu Pahat and Pontian.

“I urge all in Johor to always be aware of any instructions from authorities and continue to keep themselves and their families safe,”he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 4).

Johor Baru and other areas in the state have been experiencing heavy rain since the early hours of Thursday.

Meanwhile, a check of the Kota Tinggi Public Works Department (JKR) Facebook page found reports of rising water along several roads, with only heavy vehicles being allowed to drive through because of the bad weather.

Among the locations are Jalan Sri Perani near Ladang Fima, Batu 25 and Jalan Johor Baru-Endau, while Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing can still be used by all vehicles.
