The only 'move' on govt agenda is towards progress, says Loke

SEREMBAN: Attempts to topple the administration are highly irresponsible but the unity government does not wish to dwell on them, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said critics of the government, Perikatan Nasional in particular, can keep talking about "Langkah Dubai" (Dubai Move), "Langkah Alor Setar" or even "Langkah Chow Kit" but all he is interested in is "Langkah Pendigitalan" (the move towards digitalisation).

"This is important to us (the government)... and this has been done at the Transport Ministry where, through the Road Transport Department for example, we are continuing to provide more online services for the benefit of the people," he said Thursday (Jan 4) when met after an event at SMK St Paul here.

"Then, there is also the newly-launched Padu (Central Database Hub) where we want to have an integrated system so that any government policy can be effectively implemented for the benefit of the people and the country."

He had been asked to comment on Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor remarks on Wednesday (Jan 3) hinting at the possibility of Perikatan leaders attempting to overthrow the government.

Although Sanusi refused to acknowledge the recent so-called Dubai Move, he did not rule out a "Chow Kit move" if the discussion were held in Kuala Lumpur or an "Alor Setar move" out of Kedah.

Sanusi also claimed that the current government would not last to the end of its five-year term.

Talk of a "Dubai Move" surfaced after Community Communications Department (J-Kom) deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that a meeting took place involving Perikatan leaders and government MPs in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to Ismail, the meeting was to assign specific tasks to "agents" responsible for identifying MPs who may want to switch their support to the Opposition.

Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said as Mentri Besar, Sanusi should focus on developing Kedah after being given the mandate by the people.

"As far as I am concerned, only irresponsible people will talk about moves to topple the government.

"As MB, he should focus on his work. As Transport Minister, I am completely focussed on my work to digitalise my ministry for the benefit of the people,"he said.

On a separate matter, Loke said details on the construction of a small port in Port Dickson would be announced soon.

"We will make an announcement such as the size of the port and other details soon.

"It will be a (fully) private sector initiative and there will be no government funding involved," he added.

In October, Loke said a company had proposed to build a port in Port Dickson and if approved, the project would provide added value to the Negri Sembilan government and attract investors or industries to build other facilities, including factories, in the area.

To another question, Loke said the ministry was studying a proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to automatically upgrade motorcycle driving licences for class B2 to B.

"The matter has been discussed and many views have been presented.

"This is because the B category is for high-powered bikes and some have raised concerns (whether or not) B2 holders will be able to (handle such) machines," he added.
