Brothers charged with murder

JOHOR BARU: Two brothers were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with the murder of a 25-year-old man following a fight that turned fatal.

Car wash worker P. Jagdeeshraj, 20, and shop assistant P. Vasantharaj, 21, along with three others still at large, allegedly killed Muhammad Syafiq Abd Latif.

They are said to have committed the act at the junction of Jalan Trus and Jalan Ungku Puan here at 1.08am on Oct 27 last year after a fight.

The siblings were arrested on Oct 30 and it was understood by investigators that they had no relations with the victim.

They were jointly charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a death sentence or jail term of 30 until 40 years, and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, if found guilty.

No plea was recorded as a murder case comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Magistrate Nurul Farahah Mohd Suah set March 6 for the submission of the post mortem report.

The accused were not represented while the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor R. Nevina.

In a police statement released earlier, the victim was said to have sustained stab wounds on his head, left shoulder, left arm, buttocks and a slash mark on his left hand.
