Floods: Number of victims in Johor drops as of evening, Jan 5


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has dropped to 1,146 as of 6pm on Friday (Jan 5).

According to the state disaster management committee, some 302 flood evacuees were allowed to return home between 4pm and 6pm on Friday.

"Two flood relief centres in Johor Baru have been closed between 4pm and 6pm, bringing the total number of active centres in Johor to 11 from 13 previously.

"There are now seven flood relief centres in Kota Tinggi, two in Mersing and one each in Johor Baru and Kluang," said the committee in a statement.

It added that Kota Tinggi remains the district with the most flood victims.

"There are 761 flood victims in Kota Tinggi, 265 in Mersing, 77 in Kluang and 43 in Johor Baru.

"As of now, no other districts apart from the four have flood evacuees," it said.

The committee added that the water level at Sungai Kahang in Kampung Contoh, Kluang, has also reached the danger level.

"Meanwhile, six other rivers in Segamat, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Mersing and Batu Pahat have reached the warning level," it said.
