Johor, Pahang disaster management committees on alert following severe rain warning

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) wants the state- and district-level disaster management committees in Johor and Pahang to be activated following the continuous alert and severe rain warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

Nadma said this was to increase the level of preparedness for impending disasters, especially in high-risk areas.

"The committees also need to ensure that all temporary evacuation centres are equipped with basic requirements and that control posts on scene have sufficient operational assets in good condition and ready to be used," said Nadma in a statement on Friday (Jan 5).

It will also constantly monitor the situation of technical information parameters, through the National Disaster Control Centre (NDCC), in collaboration with various technical agencies.

It added that NDCC is also always prepared to receive disaster information, disaster management and operation assistance via telephone at 03-8064 2400; fax at 03-8064 2429 or email at opsroom@nadma.gov.my

At noon on Friday, MetMalaysia issued a severe level warning of continuous rain in Mersing and Kota Tinggi in Johor until Jan 7.

A warning of continuous rain at the same alert level was also issued for the same period for Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang, as well as Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Baru in Johor. – Bernama
