MCMC to help upgrade Internet connectivity at Mara campuses

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has agreed to assist Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to upgrade Internet connectivity across its 342 campuses nationwide, says Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

The Mara chairman said this was vital – especially for the 269 institutions focusing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) – as improving Internet access would help achieve more effective digital and ICT learning for students.

"The collaboration between Mara and MCMC will benefit TVETMARA students while contributing to the country's digital economy in line with the 4th Industrial Revolution.

"This is apart from having better access for students and lecturers to access online resources and educational materials more efficiently in both rural and urban areas," he said on Friday (Jan 5) via a Facebook post.

Asyraf's post comes after receiving complaints from students following his visits to Mara Junior Science College (MRSM), Mara Skills Training College (KKTM) and other educational institutions under Mara.

Among the concerns include slow Internet speeds and poor signal reception, he added.

He said this after visiting MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad SalimFateh Din in Cyberjaya. Also present was Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
