IPOH: Be cautious about clicking on unknown links to the Central Database Hub (Padu) to avoid getting scammed, says Perak executive councillor Mohd Azlan Helmi.
The public must not tap on links provided by third parties, said Mohd Azlan, who is the state communications and multimedia committee chairman.
“Do not easily believe any links that some individuals send to your mobile phone, especially those copy-and-paste types. Never click on third-party links that take you to dodgy-looking websites.
“If you are not sure on how to go about the registration process, please visit any of the 70-odd Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) in Perak.
“Always verify with the nearest PEDi, or the related government agencies,” he said after visiting the PEDi at Kampung Tersusun Batu 8 in Tambun yesterday.
Padu was launched by the Prime Minister on Jan 2. It is meant to ensure that the distribution of aid and subsidies is efficient and reaches their target groups.
Mohd Azlan said that each time the government announced any new data update, or a method to provide aid, there tends to be scammers out there waiting to cheat people.
So far, he said there had been no reports received in Perak about people getting scammed over the registration of Padu data on unknown links.
On his visit to the PEDi, he said he was there to get a briefing on the latest update on the registration process.
He added that as at Jan 4, a total of 45,655 Perakians had updated their data.
However, he urged the people not to wait until the closing date in March to update their data.
“As the closing date approaches, we are worried that there may be congestion and other issues that can cause difficulties in the registration process.
“Please start updating the data as soon as possible as the PEDi centres are operating seven days a week. Take this opportunity to get help from the officers stationed at these centres,” he added.
Mohd Azlan said he would also be meeting with all the assemblymen in the state to update them on the registration process, so that they could inform their constituents to do the needful.
“There are some 1.8 million Perakians who are eligible to update their data. We hope that everyone will do the necessary,” he added.
