ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Football Association (KFA) has confirmed that its chief executive officer Zulkifli Che Haron has been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
KFA vice president Muhammad Radhi Mat Din however, said that the association does not have detailed information regarding Zulkifli's detention along with three other individuals.
Muhammad Radhi, who is also state consumerism and cost of living, youth and sports committee chairman, expressed surprise at Zulkifli's detention and described him as the "hardest-working" individual in the association.
"Give time for the investigation process, see what charges there are... KFA will also convene a special meeting soon.
"This (special meeting) is necessary because we need to delve into this issue as I really do not know (more)," he said when approached by reporters after officiating the Kedah state Youth Council annual general meeting here on Saturday (Jan 6).
On Friday (Jan 6), it was reported that the MACC had obtained a three-day remand order for four individuals, including the CEO of a state football association, over a corruption case involving over RM6mil in 2020.
The four individuals, aged between 40 and 60, were detained while giving statements at the Kedah MACC office between 5pm and 6.30pm on Thursday (Jan 4).
According to sources, the alleged bribes were to assist a company owner secure contracts for a race circuit construction project and the management, operation and maintenance of five water reservoirs in Kedah.
MACC senior investigations director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed their detention and said that the case is being investigated under Section 16a(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act. – Bernama
