PM visits IJN but could not meet Abdul Hadi

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had wanted to visit Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang at the National Heart Institute (IJN) yesterday but was unable to meet the PAS president who was undergoing a medical procedure.

This was confirmed by a statement by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

“Abdul Hadi is receiving treatment at IJN. His condition is stable but he needs constant monitoring.

“We were informed of the Prime Minister’s visit (to visit Abdul Hadi), but he was not able to meet the party president as he was in a medical procedure at the time of the PM’s visit,” Takiyuddin said.

Earlier yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Office stated that Anwar had gone to IJN to visit Abdul Hadi and a friend, Ziauddin Sardar, who was also warded at the hospital.

The PMO had attached photos of Anwar meeting Ziauddin in one of the wards.

The 76-year-old Abdul Hadi, a heart patient, had valve surgery at IJN in 2017.

Meeting the region’s growing health needs

Anwar and Abdul Hadi were once in the same coalition, Pakatan Rakyat, but they parted ways in 2015 after the alliance broke up.

They have been political rivals since then.
