Ampang babysitter nabbed for child abuse

AMPANG: A woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing a four-year-old girl in her care.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said they received a report from the girl's father about the alleged abuse.

"The man who works as a cook lodged a report on Dec 17 claiming that when he picked up his daughter from the babysitter's house, she had injuries on her body.

"He brought the girl to the Ampang Hospital and the medical officer there confirmed that there were old and new injuries on the girl's back, face, knees and feet," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 7).

He said police arrested the 39-year-old woman at around 10pm on Jan 4 along Jalan Indah, Taman Ampang Indah in connection with the case.

"Checks revealed that the woman did not have a prior record and has been remanded for seven days to help with further investigations.

"We are investigating the case for child abuse under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," he said.

ACP Mohd Azam warned the public against committing any abuse on children.

"We will not hesitate to take stern action against those caught intentionally committing such acts," he said.
