MELAKA: A bride's father gave RM125,000 as "ang pow" to various schools, charities and non-profit organisations during his youngest daughter's wedding reception.
Datuk Tan Hor Sam from Kota Laksamana even invited schoolchildren to experience the grand matrimonial ceremony at the ballroom of a leading hotel here on Saturday night (Jan 6).
"I decided to mark my daughter's wedding by helping those in need with the hope my girl is blessed with a blissful married life," said the 75-year-old social activist.
Tan said he turned the wedding ceremony into an event to do good as he wanted his children to continue his legacy of helping others.
"I just want to help others when I am still healthy and chose my daughter's wedding to instil good values in my three children," he said, adding that he did the same when his eldest daughter got married in 2015.
His daughter Tan Li Ying tied the knot with her sweetheart Tetsushi Kitano during the ceremony.
The couple, who are both 36 years old, met while working in Singapore before their love bloomed.
Both of them went through a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony in Takayama, Japan, last year.
Tan, who was also a prominent lawyer, previously managed a legal firm in Kuala Lumpur for 18 years since 1977 and was known for his philanthropic acts to charitable organisations since 1978.
He was also currently the honorary chairman and legal adviser for various associations in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca including sports, clans, religious, culture and education bodies.
