JELI: More than RM50mil has been allocated to repair roads damaged in the floods.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the fund is meant for 81 projects in four states – Kelantan, Tereng-ganu, Johor and Pahang.
“We have conducted studies, and the repairs need over RM50mil,” he said, adding work has already started on some of the projects.
He told reporters this after inspecting the locations of damaged roads and the construction of a bailey bridge in Jalan Kampung Sungai Sam-Jeli near Kampung Kubur Datu here yesterday, Bernama reported.
He said the roads, which were damaged on Monday, are expected to be ready in April before Aidilfitiri.
“This collapsed road is used by about 10,000 vehicles every day.
“To make it easy for the residents, a temporary route – a bailey bridge – is being built and it is expected to be completed this Wednesday.
“At the same time, repairs on permanent roads are being carried out and it will take more than two months to complete,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the installation of glow-in-the-dark lines on the East-West Highway (Jeli-Grik) should be considered in terms of financial ability.
He said there is a need for such lines on the route but it involves high cost.
