Three detained for drunk driving in Ampang

AMPANG: Three men were detained for driving while intoxicated during the two-day Ops Mabuk operation in the district.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the three men are aged between 50 and 65 and were detained during the operation on Friday (Jan 5) and Saturday (Jan 6).

"Two men were detained at a roadblock at Jalan Pandan Indah on Friday while the other was detained at another roadblock at Jalan Pandan Utama on Saturday.

"They were detained wholly under the influence of alcohol, which is an offence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 7).

The trio were brought to the Ampang Jaya Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, where tests were conducted using the Evidential Breath Analyzer II (EBA II).

"Their tests showed that their blood alcohol level was beyond the permitted amount," he said.

A total of 43 summonses were also issued for various offences while 17 motorcycles were seized at a roadblock near Jalan Kemajuan in Kampung Pandan, he said.

"We received reports of motorcyclists riding dangerously and making a lot of noise near Jalan Kemajuan in Kampung Pandan.

"Among the offences committed were riding without a license and illegal modification of motorcycles," he said.

ACP Mohd Azam said such operations will be conducted continuously.
