Investigations into Aman Palestin ongoing, says MACC

PETALING JAYA: Investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on allegations of misappropriation of funds involving Aman Palestin Berhad are ongoing, says its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki.

He said progress is nearing completion, and the commission is obtaining several more confirmation on matters related to the case.

In addition to investigating how the money received by Aman Palestin was spent, Azam said the MACC also needs to investigate the companies that were established involving funds obtained from the public.

"MACC is still investigating the issue of Aman Palestin by investigating whether it is true that the money received from the public has been sent to the intended recipient.

"In addition, there are some questions to the investigating officer about the investment in buying gold bars carried out by Aman Palestin.

"This matter also needs to be thoroughly investigated, and if there is anything wrong with this issue, the MACC will propose charges to the public prosecutor," he told reporters on Monday (Jan 8).

Azam explained that there was a slight difficulty in investigating the Aman Palestin case as the party under investigation claimed to have sent aid to the needy.

He said the commission has the right to ascertain who is the recipient of aid and whether it is correct or not implemented, and that the matter also needs to be confirmed by the MACC investigating officer and certainly a detailed and thorough investigation needs to be carried out.

"Several names are given as suspects, and the MACC needs to know who they are.

"For that reason, we need some time to investigate this case," he said.
